SEJARAH

The history of Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) is begun with the development of Institute of Basic Science and Mathematics (Basic Natural Science / BNS) in Faculty of Medicine. The Institute is one of the institutions that developed according to a master plan development of Universitas Airlangga in 1970-1979. Furthermore, from the development of this institution, supported by the availability of human resources (HR) and adequate equipment, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) was established. FMIPA was officially established under the decree of Rector of Universitas Airlangga No. 6400/PT.03.9/T/1982 dated July 1, 1982, which was then followed by Presidential Decree No. 56/1982 dated September 7, 1982 about the Organizational Structure of Universitas Airlangga. The establishment of courses in the Science Faculty was inaugurated by the Ministry of Education through Decree No. 0556/D/1982, namely Undergraduate program of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

In the academic year 1985/1986 – 1990/1991, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences along with 8 others Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences from various universities appointed to found Diploma program in educational Mathematics and Natural Science, based on the decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Department of National Education No. 68/DIKTI/Kep/1987. In the academic year 1999/2000 the faculty opened diploma program (D-1 and D-3) Information System under the Department of Mathematics and diploma program of Automation Instrumentation System under the Department of Physics in the academic year 2002/2003. Those diploma programs were inaugurated based on an operating license under a decree of Director General of Higher Education No. 1325/D/T/2002 dated 5 July 2002.

According to the Decree of Rector of Universitas Airlangga No. 3294/J03/OT/2008 dated 10 April 2008, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) changed into Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), in line with the new established study programs, namely Information Systems, Biomedical Engineering and Environmental Science and Technology undergraduate study programs.
